CUPERTINO, CA – Apple has made an announcement regarding the controversy over its mapping efforts, which made its debut in its iOS 6 update released yesterday. In a statement made by company CEO Tim Cook, he states that the lack of map detail is a completely intentional, revolutionary new way of presenting navigation data.

“Nobody wants to look at a complicated map when they travel,” proclaimed Cook. “We’ve taken a revolutionary step in eliminating the non-critical elements which has plagued the map-reading experience since the dawn of time.”

With regards of its navigation system directing its users to ferries instead of adjacent bridges, Cook said, “Apple users are known to travel off the beaten path to experience new sights. Apple Maps will allow them to enhance that experience. Why ruin the surprise by providing meaningless street views?”

Apple’s stock (APPL) rose US$2.24 upon Cook’s announcement. GPS manufacturer Garmin has subsequently announced it will start production on a new line of simplified GPS devices that will take its users to an approximate area of a city and let users find their own way.
