LOS ANGELES - A porn actor wanted for allegedly murdering a co-worker with a samurai-style sword died after falling from a cliff edge following a standoff with Los Angeles police, officials said.

Stephen Hill (picture) plunged around 15m off a sheer rock face after being stunned with a Taser by Los Angeles police officers who had been negotiating with him for several hours.

Hill was wanted for one count of murder and five counts of attempted murder after attacking colleagues at a DVD production centre in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

He attacked a colleague with a sword that was used as a film prop at the centre about a week after being told he was being sacked and that he would have to move out of the production facility where he had been living, the authorities said.

Hill then turned on two other people who had rushed to the defence of their co-worker. One of those who attempted to help, Mr Herbert Hin Wong, 30, was killed in the attack.

Hill then fled in an SUV with the murder weapon, the authorities said.

Saturday's dramatic denouement began when police received a tip-off that Hill had been spotted at a property in the San Fernando Valley.

Hill was subsequently cornered by officers at the edge of a steep cliff near the house, where he had threatened to kill himself, police said. AGENCIES
