2. Unlocking the FSCS 2.1 How do I unlock my Force Sensitive Character Slot (FSCS)?
The road to unlocking the FSCS is a complete mystery and the subject of a great deal of speculation. Nobody but SOE knows, and they’re not telling. Even the players whom have unlocked their FSCS do not know how they did it precisely.

Common wisdom implies that you need to do X things, but what those things are is a matter of conjecture. If you look around at the Official Jedi Forums you can almost certainly find a thread about the Theory of the Week.

The Official Jedi Forums

Also see what Monika (the first public Jedi) did to become a Jedi at: What Monika Did

2.2 How long does it take to unlock the FSCS?
Again, this is a complete unknown. It took the first players about 4 months or so. One estimate I heard put it at 4 months (120 days) at 5 hours a day or 600 hours of game play. (Please note that this does not mean that just playing for 600 hours is enough.)

2.3 What are Holocrons and how do I use/find/understand them?
A Holocron is a “Hint” as to how to unlock your FSCS. They tell you a profession to master in order continue on the path to unlocking the FSCS. You can use anywhere from zero to five of them for hints before they stop working, it all depend on how far along the path to unlocking your FSCS you are when you use the Holocron.

Using a Holocron is NOT REQUIRED to unlocking your FSCS, nor is using any Holocron a guarantee of unlocking.

You should really read the Unofficial Holocron FAQ over at Warcry: The Unofficial Holocron FAQ

Jedi Holocron Sith Holocron

2.4 Why is nobody willing to tell my how to unlock my FSCS?
Honestly, because nobody knows. There is no conspiracy. SOE prefers that the means of unlocking remain a secret. In addition SOE built a system that makes the exact route to becoming a jedi very tricky to map.

2.5 What happens when I do unlock my FSCS?
You get a message that states: "You begin to feel attunned with the power of the Force. Your Force Sensative character slot has been unlocked." See the screenshot below:

Unlocking the FSCS

You also receive an in-game email telling you what to do next.

Finally, an announcement is also made ACROSS ALL SERVERS that “Lord Vader has detected a vergance in the Force…” See the screenshot below for the specific message.

Vader's Message

2.6 Is unlocking the FSCS cumulative across all my characters on all the servers, or to one character?
Only the actions of one specific character will unlock the FSCS. This should not prevent you from playing across multiple servers. Just know that there is no cumulative actions that unlock your FSCS.

2.7 What do I do once I unlock my FSCS?
/Cheer.

Now you can create a Jedi Initiate character. Logout and you should have a new Character Creation screen.

2.8 Can I keep playing my original character once I unlock my FSCS?
Absolutely. Even if you unlock your FSCS you never have to create a Jedi character. Feel free to keep playing your existing character.

Creating a Jedi character (even on the same server as another character) does not require deletion of the other character.

2.9 Is the FSCS unlocked only for the server I am playing on when I unlock?
You may only create your Jedi character on the server which you unlocked the FSCS on. That is, if I use my regular character and unlock my FSCS on Bria, I may only create my Jedi character on Bria.

2.10 Can I have multiple Jedi characters with my one account?
No, you have only one Jedi character per account.

2.11 Why did SOE build the FSCS Unlocking System this way?
Holocron also posted:

The original intent and spirit of the system was "those who become jedi should be those who have tried out many different aspects of the game." We found that tracking the number of metrics we originally wanted to track wasn't really feasible. So we decided to go with a smaller subset of metrics to track that still captured the spirit of the system. Trying out diverse professions seemed like a reasonable thing. Then we waited and watched, and found that it would take years and years given the pace we were seeing people doing it at. So we put in hints, via the Holocrons, using the standard system we have for loot drops, and that's where we are now.[hline]Ogoed in Eclipse Galaxy

3. Starting a Jedi Character 3.1 Can I create my Jedi character on any server?
No. You may only create your Jedi character on the server which you unlocked the FSCS on. That is, if I use my regular character and unlock my FSCS on Bria, I may only create my Jedi character on Bria.

Creating a Jedi character (even on the same server as another character) does not require deletion of the other character.

3.2 Is there anything special/different about character creation for a Jedi?
There’s a nifty background and your first time you get a dialog box that you are about to create a Jedi Character. Besides that, character creation is identical to non-Jedi characters.

Character Creation Screen

3.3 Can I be any race/sex/body type/etc that I want to be as a Jedi?
Absolutely. Feel free to play an obese, short Wookie Jedi of Doom.

3.4 Can I start on any planet I want as a Jedi?
You may select any starting planet you wish. You may not start on the advanced planets.

3.5 What equipment does a Jedi start with?
You begin with 250 Credits, a Melon, a Mineral Survey Kit, a Chemical Survey kit, a Generic Crafting Tool, and starter Brawler Clothing.

You do not start with a Lightsaber.

3.6 How do I get my Lightsaber?
You need to craft your own Lightsaber. See below.

3.7 How do I get trained as a Jedi?
Each Jedi has his own personal trainer. You can find your trainer with the /findmytrainer command. This produces a Waypoint to your trainer, and while it is possible they will be nearby, be prepared to run quite a distance.

Be warned, the trainer is disguised as some other form of NPC, like “An Artisan” or some such.

3.8 What do I do once I have started a Jedi?
Bask in your majesty. Now, go out and help the good guys.

Seriously though, first thing you should do is read this FAQ in its entirety. Second, build a Lightsaber. Third, go out and use the Lightsaber repeatedly to earn Lightsaber XP and Jedi XP.

As soon as you have enough Lightsaber XP, train. Then build the next generation Lightsaber.

3.9 Why do all Jedi start out as Rebel?
All Jedi begin as COVERT rebel. It is up to you to start a noble path and then fall from it later on. While this is not necessarily how it happens in the Expanded Universe, it’s the way it is implemented.

It is believed that you become OVERT in your respective Faction when reaching Jedi Master.[hline]Ogoed in Eclipse Galaxy

4. Jedi Skills & XP 4.1 What are the Jedi Skill trees like?
Here are the three skill trees. The Dark Jedi Knight is identical to Jedi Knight and the Dark Jedi Master is identical to Jedi Master.

Jedi Initiate Jedi Knight Jedi Master

You can also view the Jedi Skill Tree in more detail here: Jedi Skill Tree

4.2 What is the Jedi Profession tree?
Jedi Padawan -> Jedi Knight -> Jedi Master

OR

Jedi Padawan -> Dark Jedi Knight -> Dark Jedi Master

Notice that both Profession trees start in the same place. Once you have achieved Jedi Padawan, you may choose to either go into the Dark Jedi Knight or Jedi Knight professions.

4.3 What are the difference between Dark Jedi and Light Jedi and their respective skill trees?
There is no difference in the tree other than Dark Jedi are Imperial, Light Jedi are Rebel.

4.4 How many skill points does each skill box cost in the Jedi trees?
All but one Jedi skill boxes are free (zero skill points).

4.5 Can I learn other Professions?
No. The Jedi character you create has ZERO skill points.

4.6 What types of XP do I get as a Jedi?
There are five types of XP:

One Handed Lightsaber XP which you receive for using a One Handed Lightsaber in combat.

Two Handed Lightsaber XP which you receive for using a Two Handed Lightsaber in combat. You get your first Two Handed Lightsaber Schematic when starting Jedi Knight.

Polearm Lightsaber XP which you receive for using a Polearm Lightsaber in combat. You get your first Polearm Lightsaber Schematic when starting Jedi Master.

Jedi XP is like Combat XP. You get 10% of your One Handed Lightsaber XP as additional Jedi XP. This is true for Two Handed Lightsaber and Polearm Lightsabers as well.

Apprentice XP is just like Apprentice XP you’re used to. You get it for training other Jedi PC characters.

4.7 Does training from my trainer cost credits?
Initial training from your trainer is free.

Advanced Training may cost money; it is unclear at this time.

4.8 Can I place Hervesters or a Home?
No. Jedi have no lots. If you try to place a harvester or a home you get a message along the lines of: "You are a Jedi. You have no need for structures."[hline]Ogoed in Eclipse Galaxy

5. About Lightsabers 5.1 Is there a Jedi Crafting line for making a Lightsaber? How do I get crafting XP?
No, there is no Jedi Crafting skill line. You get Lightsaber Schematics when you advance up the Lightsaber Usage lines of each of the Jedi Professions.

You do not need any special crafting XP.

5.2 How do I build a Lightsaber?
You must first build a Lightsaber Crafting Tool with your Generic Crafting Tool. Next you must build a Lightsaber Crystal. Then you can build your first LightSaber using the Lightsaber Crafting Tool.

5.3 What Resources/Components are used in making a Lightsaber?
Lightsaber Crafting Tool: [unknown]

Refined Crystal Pack (A component): 10 Stell, 20 Gemstone, 6 Copper.

“Training” First Generation Lightsaber: 2 Refined Crystal Packs, 15 Mineral, 14 Metal, 17 Chemical, 20 Gas, 14 Metal

Second Generation Lightsaber: A First Generation Lightsaber, 3 Metal, 25 Gas

Third Generation Lightsaber: A Second Generation Lightsaber, 4 Metal, 30 Gas

Fourth Generation Lightsaber: A Third Generation Lightsaber, 5 Metal, 35 Gas

Fifth Generation Lightsaber: A Fourth Generation Lightsaber, 6 Metal, 40 Gas

Kryat Dragon Perls and/or Force Crystals are add-ons for upgrading a Lightsaber during crafting. It is stated the Kryat Dragon Perls add from 100 to 200 points to your minimum/maximum damage. Force Crystals seem to range from -50 to 100.

5.4 How do I set what Color my lightsaber will be?
The color is affected by the Force Crystal/Kryat Dragon Pearl you use. The Force Crystal/Kryat Dragon Pearl has an attribute called “Blade Color Modification.” Using the crystal/pearl then modifies your Lghtsaber to that color.

The default color of a lightsaber is red.

5.5 Can I customize the Grip on my Lightsaber?
Yes, you can. A stage during crafting lets you select from thirteen (13) different grips for your lightsaber. That is, thirteen (13) different grips for a one handed lightsaber. Two handed and Polearm lightsabers are still unknown.

5.6 How do I make a more powerful Lightsaber?
More advanced Lightsabers can be built with more advanced components and training. The more advanced Lightsaber (called First Generation, Second Generation, etc) require a lower Lightsaber as a component. For example, a Third Generation Lightsaber requires a Second Generation LightSaber and some other stuff.

Also, like all craftables in SWG, the quality of the resource you use influences the quality of the finished product.

Also, like Tailors, certain “add-ons” can be used during Lightsaber construction that give your Lightsaber more power. Such things as Crystals and Kryat Dragon Pearls are usable. It is stated the Kryat Dragon Perls add from 100 to 200 points to your minimum/maximum damage. Force Crystals seem to range from -50 to 100.

Kryat Dragon Pearl
showing Force Properties

5.7 How do I make a two-handed or Polearm Lightsaber?
You gain schematics to these types of Lightsabers as you advance. Two-handed Lightsabers are gained when you start the Jedi Knight profession. Polearm Lightsabers are gained when you start the Jedi Master profession.

5.8 Can I Critically Fail when crafting a Lightsaber?
Absolutely. The Crafting system is the same as the crafting system for a normal character.

5.9 Can a Lightsaber be Experimented on?
It is believed that you cannot experiment on a Lightsaber. Jedi also have no Experimentation points.

5.10 Can a Lightsaber be Sliced?
Yes.

5.11 What are the stats of a Lightsaber?
Lightsaber stats, just like anything else in the game, are dependant on resources and components used, plus addons, and slicing. That said, he's some samples:

Second Generation Lightsaber: 1.0 Speed, 350-538 Damage, Medium Armor Piercing, 4.3% Wound Chance, Ranges +20@0m/+15@3m/+5@5m, HAM 5/5/5

Third Generation Lightsaber: 1.0 Speed, 578-860 Damage, Medium Armor Piercing, ?% Wound Chance, Ranges +20@0m/+15@3m/+5@5m, HAM 5/5/5

Fourth Generation Lightsaber: 2.1 Speed, 752-1133 Damage, Medium Armor Piercing, 12.8% Wound Chance, Ranges +20@0m/+15@3m/+5@5m, HAM 5/5/5

Fifth Generation Lightsaber: 2.1 Speed, 963-1440 Damage, Medium Armor Piercing, 12.8% Wound Chance, Ranges +20@0m/+15@3m/+5@5m, HAM 5/5/5

An Enhanced Fifth
Generation Lightsaber

5.12 Is your Lightsaber out when equipped?
A lightsaber is not “on” when it is equipped, only when you are in combat mode. Otherwise it is held in your hand, but not on.

5.13 What Kind of Damage does a Lightsaber do?
Lightsabers do Kinetic Damage, not Energy or Fire or the like.[hline]Ogoed in Eclipse Galaxy

6. Jedi Abilities & Powers 6.1 What abilities that a normal character has are changed by becoming a Jedi?
You have an additional bar to your HAM called “Force Power.” This bar changes as you gain skill boxes. It is consumed by using Jedi Powers and replenishes naturally. The Force Power bar is colored Purple.

The biggest difference one will notice is they have unlimited Burst Run.

6.2 Do Jedi have higher HAMs than normal characters?
Initially, no, they have the same HAM as a normal character. We’ll have to wait and see if this changes as they grow in power.

6.3 How many Force Power points do I start with?
Two Hundred (200) initially and these increase as your skills increase.

6.4 What are the Jedi powers?
(Alphabetical order)

animalAttack , animalCalm, animalScare, forceChoke, forceCureDisease, forceCurePosion, forceIntimidate, forceKnockdown1, forceKnockdown2, forceLightningCone1, forceLightningCone2, forceLightningSingle1, forceLightningSingle2, forceRun1, forceRun2, forceThrow1, forceThrow2, forceWeaken1, forceWeaken2, healActionSelf1, healActionSelf2, healActionWoundOther1, healActionWoundOther2, healActionWoundSelf1, healActionWoundSelf2, healAllOther1, healAllSelf1, healAllSelf2, healBattleFatigueSelf1, healBattleFatigueSelf2, healHealthSelf1, healHealthSelf2, healHealthWoundOther1, healHealthWoundOther2, healHealthWoundSelf1, healHealthWoundSelf2, heallAllOther2, healMindSelf1, healMindSelf2, healMindWoundOther1, healMindWoundOther2, healMindWoundSelf1, healMindWoundSelf2, healStatesOther, healStatesSelf, jediMindTrick, mindBlast1, mindBlast2, saber1hComboHit1, saber1hComboHit2, saber1hFlurry, saber1hHeadHit1, saber1hHeadHit2, saber1hHit1, saber1hHit2, saber2hBodyHit1, saber2hBodyHit2, saber2hFrenzy, saber2hHit1, saber2hHit2, saber2hHit3, saber2hSweep1, saber2hSweep2, saberPolarmHit1, saberPolearmDervish, saberPolearmHit2, saberPolearmLegHit2, saberPolearmLigHit1, saberPolearmSpinAttack, saberPolearmSpinAttack2, saberSlash1, saberSlash2, saberThrow1, saberThrow2, stopBleeding, totalHealOther, totalHealSelf

6.5 How do I use a Jedi Power?
You use these abilities just the same as any other ability in the game, as commands, macros, aliases and toolbars.

6.6 What does [x] command/power do?
I, unfortunately, do not know what all these do or how they are used. If one of the existing Jedi would like to compile detailed comments about each of the force power, I would be happy to include it.[hline]Ogoed in Eclipse Galaxy

7. The Great Moral Choice 7.1 Can I start out as a Dark Jedi/Sith?
No, all Jedi start out as Jedi Padawan. Once you are ready to learn Jedi Master, you may, as an alternative, select Dark Jedi Master.

You also start out as a Covert Rebel. Only Dark Jedi are imperial.

7.2 Why do I get to choose to be a Dark Jedi only after Jedi Padawan?
All Jedi begin the same. It is up to you to start a noble path and then fall from it at a later time. While this is not necessarily how it happens in the Expanded Universe, it’s the way it is implemented.

7.3 Why are all Dark Jedi aligned with the Empire and all Light Jedi aligned with the Rebellion?
We play in a black and white universe as far as morality. A Jedi is either good or evil. The Empire is evil, the Rebellion is good. It’s that cut and dry.

7.4 Can I be a neutral Jedi?
No. Jedi are faction aligned the minute they begin the game and cannot change that faction without changing to Dark Jedi Master.

Haden Blackman (SWG Producer) said during an interview on IGN.com:

When a Jedi starts out, he is immediately aligned with the Rebel faction, the logic being that the Empire is hunting all Force users. So, Jedi are considered enemies to all Imperially-aligned characters. However, upon fulfilling all the requirements for Padawan, a Jedi can choose to become a Dark Jedi. At this point, his alignment shifts to the Imperials, allowing the player to attack Rebels and fight on PvP battlefields. We're hoping this results in battles between Jedi of competing factions. Players can still determine their own personality - they do not need to actually fight alongside Rebels or Imperials, but they will be open to attack.[hline]Ogoed in Eclipse Galaxy

8. The Downside of being a Jedi 8.1 Why is everyone bugging me now that I’m a Jedi?
They do so because they are jealous and envious and want to be just like you. Clearly they look up to you. If you are a Dark Jedi, you should consider enslaving them and making them serve you for all time. If you are a Light Jedi, you should use his opportunity to help them find the nobility that exists within each living thing.

8.2 Is it true I can only die three times as a Jedi?
Yes and no: A Jedi Padawn has three (3) lives before they lose all their skills and must start anew. When you reach Jedi Knight/Dark Jedi Knight you get one more life added to that total of three. When you reach Jedi Master/Dark Jedi Master you get anther life added to your total.

When you die for the last possible time (3, 4, or 5, depending on where you are in your profession) your character is dead. You may start a new Jedi character. You may opt to start with he same name as before, thus maintaining your story, but otherwise you are starting over.

8.3 What actions cause me to TEF (Temporary Enemy Flag) and become attackable as a Jedi?
Any use of a “special” causes you to TEF. These include any special combat move, but not the default combat move.

Once you have a TEF you may be attacked by anyone of the Opposing Faction.

It should be noted here that it is commonly believed that you become OVERT upon obtaining Jedi Master.

8.4 What are Jedi Bounty Missions?
Because you are a Jedi you are going to be hunted throughout the universe. Vader wants you dead, dead, dead. Thus the Empire places bounties on the successful separation of you head from your body.

Bounty Hunters can obtain Jedi Bounty missions from Bounty Hunter Terminals. They then track you down and try and wipe you out of existence. If they do so, they collect a big chunk of change.

I’m told the payouts are quite substantial, in the 150K range.

Haden Blackman (SWG Producer) said during an interview on IGN.com:

Jedi need to be mindful of where, around whom, and how often they use their powers. There is a separate "reputation" modifier for Jedi, which we call "visibility." Jedi rack up more "visibility" every time they use their powers. The amount of visibility earned varies depending upon the character's relationship to those around him. If a Rebel Jedi is using Force powers around Imperials, he'll gain visibility more quickly. When visibility hits a certain mark, there's a chance the Jedi will become a target for bounty hunter missions.
8.5 How do I stop a Jedi Bounty Mission?
Die.

I am not sure if becoming a Dark Jedi would remove the bounty or not, or if the Rebellion would offer a reward for your head instead.

8.6 If I ran up to Lord Vader/Luke Skywalker would they automatically kick my ass?
God, I hope so.

8.7 What happens to my stuff when I die my final death?
You lose it. Everything you are carrying, everything in your bank, everything YOU (the jedi character) placed in your original character's house. It all goes away.[hline]Ogoed in Eclipse Galaxy
